Tinkering with Tartar Sauce

Tinkering with Tartar Sauce

Today I stopped by the grocery store to pick up a bottle of tartar sauce. Is everyone remembering to read nutritional labels on EVERYTHING?

I couldn’t believe how many ingredients were in a simple condiment like this:

Seriously?

I decided to make a simple, homemade tartar sauce with real food ingredients I already had on hand … plain Greek yogurt, pickle relish, salt and pepper, lemon juice and maybe a squirt of deli mustard. And then I checked my pickle relish ingredients: corn syrup, preservatives, food dye and quite a few other ingredients.

Again … seriously??!!

So here’s a lovely homemade pickle relish recipe made with real food that will brighten up your homemade tartar sauce, tuna salad or even an organic hot dog. Depending on your taste, you might want to add more sugar or use a natural sugar substitute.

Enjoy, and stay tuned for more homemade condiment and sauce recipes!
